The crew of men and women in Greg Corso's Boot Camp class have access to what was recently named one of the top four health clubs in the world, yet they're working out in a parking lot.
What's the attraction? A new military-style boot camp exercise program at Gainesville Health & Fitness Centers.
Such programs are becoming increasingly popular because they challenge you to work out at a level you might not achieve on your own.
"There's no music, mirrors, TVs or water breaks to get in the way of your workout," says Corso, a personal trainer at GHFC. "You won't get away with going at your own pace."
At sessions like these, the personal trainers push the Boot Camp participants hard from the first second to the the class a high intensity. For example, in one of Greg's recent classes, the boot camp crew lined up shoulder-to-shoulder to pass a stack of tires down the row and the back again.
"It shows people they are capable of more than they thought," Corso said. "By pushing them to a true 100 percent, there's a physical and mental effect."
