From the Friday, April 18, 2008 Gainesville Sun Glen Purdy prepares to leave his parents' home in Micanopy on Thursday for his house in Gainesville with a 24-foot-long, 350-pound wooden blue marlin. Purdy said he was commissioned by marine life artist Guy Harvey and Scott Potts, owner of Scout boats, to build the world's largest fish model. Today Purdy will drive to Charleston, S.C. to deliver the fish to a large outdoors store, where it will hang 60 feet in the air above customers and merchandise. Purdy, who has created hundreds of wooden wildlife models and artwork, said right now this is the largest undocumented fish model in the world, surpassing the previous record of 18 feet. He said when it arrives in Charleston, the Guiness Book of World Records will make his blue marlin model officially the largest in the world.
